Don Vocca honored for contributions to Pataskala Public Library and American Legion Post 107
PATASKALA, Ohio — The Park National Bank (Park) honored Don Vocca as the 2016 Pataskala Community Difference Maker. He was recognized for dedicating his time and expertise to the Pataskala Public Library and as commander of American Legion Post 107. Park presented the award at its annual Difference Maker Community Breakfast at the COTC Pataskala Campus.
Pataskala Public Library Director and Fiscal Officer Jeff Rothweiler nominated Vocca for the award, which is given annually to a community member who has been deeply involved in the community. In his nomination, Rothweiler said, “Don is a selfless volunteer and great mentor. He gives proper recognition to our many veterans who’ve served our country and community, and he makes it possible for local students to attend Buckeye Boys and Girls State.”
Vocca played a key role in the revitalization and success of several community programs. He’s served as president and vice president of the library’s board of directors and his leadership in the renovation resulted in a modern facility to meet the community’s needs.
As commander of American Legion Post 107, he is known for
spearheading fundraising campaigns to allow local students to attend
Buckeye Boys and Girls State, a program that develops leadership skills through government-focused curriculum. Vocca has served on many community-focused committees, and educates community members about the importance of the American flag.
As part of the award, Vocca could choose an organization to receive a $500 donation from Park. He chose American Legion Post 107 Buckeye Boys and Girls State program.
“It’s an honor to recognize Don for his outstanding contributions to the Pataskala Public Library and the Pataskala community,” said Brian Elder, manager of Park’s Pataskala office. “He’s a true example of what it looks like to give back selflessly and propel a community forward. We don’t take lightly the commitment Don demonstrates. It’s a model we hope to imitate in our efforts as well.”
Park sought nominations from all community members to identify neighbors who go the extra mile to make a positive impact.
